Let’s get one thing out of the way: The name of this place is confusing. The sign says tbsp, which is an abbreviation for tablespoon. It’s an offshoot of a catering company called Spoon. But the storefront is called tablespoon. Got that?
The main show here isn’t the ice cream, but we’ll argue that it should be. The Carrot Cake Ice Cream is one of the best that we’ve ever tasted. It’s awe inspiring. Swoon-worthy. Truly divine.
The ice cream consists of real pieces of carrot cake mixed into a vanilla ice cream along with ribbons of cream cheese icing. The cream cheese really puts it over the top.
Tablespoon only sells the ice cream in it’s freezer in the front of the store, next to take-home tubs of cookie dough and lasagna. Sadly, the ice cream is not consistently available. The flavors offered change, too, but often they are sold out. We want more!
We’ve also tried the NY Cheesecake Ice Cream, which was also good but didn’t send us swooning quite as much as the Carrot Cake. It was the same basic idea: chunks of cheesecake (including a graham cracker crust) mixed into vanilla ice cream. The crust pieces were a little too big, which made it difficult to eat. Not that it stopped us:)
