Village Yogurt - scooponcones.com
Something about the name Village Yogurt might give you the impression that it was a frozen yogurt shop. But don’t be fooled.
Village Yogurt is actually a health food diner, known for it’s vegetarian fare and celebrity clientele. It does offer fro-yo, almost as an afterthought.
(We might add that it is above 14th St. and so technically in Chelsea, not the Village. Perhaps a better name would be Chelsea Veggies).
The store is, shall we say, unassuming. Revered by some as a relic of old New York, avoided by others who find it dingy.
The yogurt itself comes in two flavors, plain and chocolate. A cup of yogurt doesn’t come with fruit or other toppings. We were disappointed that they wouldn’t give samples.
We decided to try a Fitz, which is a shake made out of yogurt and seltzer. We hoped it would be fizzy like a float, but they put in so little seltzer that it was essentially just blended yogurt.
The Village Yogurt may be a lovely health food diner, but if you are looking for frozen yogurt, keep looking.
