American’s don’t usually think of red beans as dessert, but we should.

This Red Bean float from The Shaved Ice Shop at the Hester Street Fair is pure bliss. It has sweetened red beans at the bottom, shaved ice with evaporated milk (and a little sweetened condensed milk) in the middle, and two scoops of Green Tea ice cream on top.

The Shaved Ice Shop gets their inspiration from the open air markets in Taiwan. Their regular shaved ice (and we use the term regular loosely, because it seems anything but regular) includes three toppings of your choice, shaved ice, and a scoop of either Mango sorbet or Green Tea ice cream.

The creative toppings include carmel corn, mixed jelly (a jelly-like dessert) and fruity pops (rice cereal plus pop rocks). Love it.

Find them at the Hester Street Fair on weekends.

Hours: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday; April-December

Price: $5 red bean float; $6 shaved ice
