Shake Shack - scooponcones.com
There are two things you should know about the Shake Shack: They serve a damn good shake, and the line is incredibly long.
But if you are just going for the custard, you are in luck: A separate line exists just for cold foods and you can pretty much walk up to the counter (and laugh at all the poor schmucks queued up behind you). It’s like a VIP line for ice cream.
They call their ice-cream a “custard,” which means high-falluten’ soft serve. It is super creamy and thick, and just the right mix of cream, sugar and milk.
Every day they feature a special custard flavor and the custard menu rotates monthly. Our favorite in June is Coffee & Donuts, which is a mild coffee custard with pieces of real donuts mixed in.
The Shake Shack is also renown for their concretes, which are like Blizzards or McFlurries.
We appreciate how each store offers a concrete that is local to its neighborhood, in this case the Upper West Side: Vanilla Custard; Strawberry puree; fresh banana and shortbread cookie. They also let you indulge with the Natural History Crunch-stallation: Vanilla custard; chocolate malt; Valrhona chocolate crunchies and chocolate toffee.
Also very thoughtful, they offer a Poochini for that special canine in your life.
Not on the West Side? The Shake Shack also has locations in Madison Square Garden, the Upper East Side, Times Square and in CitiField, the Mets stadium in Queens.
