Shake Shack - scooponcones.com
There are two things you should know about the Shake Shack: They serve a damn good shake, and the line is incredibly long.
They call their ice-cream a “custard,” which means high-falluten’ soft serve. It is super creamy and thick, and just the right mix of cream, sugar and milk.
Every day they feature a special custard flavor and the custard menu rotates monthly. Our favorite in June is Coffee & Donuts, which is a mild coffee custard with pieces of real donuts mixed in.
But the real draw here is Madison Square Park. Getting a shake and a burger and sitting outside is one of the best ways to spend a sunny afternoon -- especially with kids, as the sea of strollers attests.
Unfortunately, you have to get there before 11:30 a.m., or face a mammoth line that winds around the park. You can follow shakeshack on Twitter for updates on the line length. The Shake Shack also closes for bad weather.
Luckily, there is a separate (extremely short) line just for cold foods — we like to think of it as the ice cream express:)
They are also renown for their concretes, which are like Blizzards or McFlurries.
Not near the Garden? The Shake Shack also has locations on the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Times Square and in CitiField, the Mets stadium in Queens.
