Serendipity 3 - scooponcones.com
The hopping Serendipity 3 is known for Frrrozen Hot Chocolate (the triple-R spelling is trademarked), which is something like a frappachino without the coffee. But it comes in a large bowl, big enough to serve a whole table. And it’s also a richer, more chocolatey dessert. We like it, so does Oprah and practically everyone else who has ever passed through the City.
But don’t let the the Frrrozen Hot Chocolates steal the limelight from the sundaes.
Serendipity 3 sells the “World’s Most Expensive” sundae, which comes in at $1,000. The Golden Opulence Sundae is actually covered in edible gold leaf and has been parodied on 30 Rock: http://tinyurl.com/yhz28rf (via Ea Me Daily)
We tried something a little more affordable, the Forbidden Broadway Sundae, which had still-warm Blackout Chocolate Cake, Vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and real whipped cream with chocolate shavings. When it arrived at our table, everyone in the dining room turned their heads to look, and we shouted “Oh my God!” The waiter said he gets that all the time. One taste tester said: “This should be illegal.”
They don’t make their own ice cream, but we’re not holding that against them.
It can be hard to get a table here, we called on Monday and couldn’t get a lunch reservation for Friday. The wait can be lengthy, with the line spilling outside on the sidewalk.
