Screme Gelato - scooponcones.com
Screme is the North American outpost of an Israeli gelato chain, Aldo.
They have a store inside Madame Tussauds in Times Square, which is bigger than their Upper West Side spot and a little weird as you might expect. It has a separate door right next to the wax museum, with a freezer holding 16 flavors. A few feet away, inside the museum entry way, is another freezer with another 16 flavors.
The Blueberry Pie is to die for, with bits of graham cracker crust inside. The Mojito sorbet tastes just like a frozen blended version of the drink, but the dude behind the counter assures us it’s non-alcoholic. The only disappointment was the carmel nut crunch, which was not as creamy or mind blowing as the rest of the gelato.
They claim to have more than 5,000 flavors, and put out 10 new varieties every day. All the gelato is made fresh daily in a kitchen upstairs.
The company has an aggressive expansion plan to add 12 stores in their first year in New York.
