Rita’s Water Ice - scooponcones.com
For years, we have heard our Pennsylvania friends rave about Rita’s Water Ices and wondered what all the fuss was about. Isn’t it just flavored ice?
Luckily Rita’s opened a storefront on the Upper West Side this winter and now we have the answer: It is really good flavored ice.
So good that the Blueberry flavor has actual blueberries in it. And the Cotton Candy and Swedish Fish are standouts (the Swedish Fish reminds us of the our childhood Icees from K-Mart!). Even the Brownie Fudge, which we thought would be weird as an ice, was surprisingly yummy with bits of brownie inside.
You can get two flavors in a cup, and our only complaint is that the flavors are stacked on top of each other instead of side by side (the bottom one gets buried and melted on).
Rita’s also has custard, which is a soft-serve that has more egg than ice cream to make it creamier. It is really sweet and creamy, almost reminiscent of meringue.
