We were delighted to discover some raw ice cream that actually tastes good. It’s called Raw Ice Cream Co. and we found it at the Unfancy Food Show, but you can find it in select grocery stores around town.
Raw foods are vegan -- that means no animal products including dairy or eggs -- and the ingredients aren’t heated above 116 degrees Fahrenheit.
Raw Ice Cream Co. uses a combination of coconut milk and cashew milk as a base instead of dairy.
We sampled the Cinnamon Vanilla and Chocolate Hazelnut. It is denser and has a slightly different texture than regular ice cream, with the consistency reminding us a little of cookie dough. To someone who loves to dip her finger into the bowl, that’s not a bad thing.
This is heads and shoulders above other raw ice creams we’ve tried.
