Imagine it: a cake donut, cut in half, and filled with a scoop of ice cream. More than just some Homer-Simpsonesqe fantasy, the donut ice cream sandwich exists and can be purchased for a mere $3.50 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
We chose a coconut-chocolate donut filled with Cookies ‘n Cream, and a red velvet donut filled with Pistachio. Both were amazing. The texture of the coconut and glaze and cake with the creamy ice cream is a delight. And the flavor of the red velvet -- which actually bolder than most cakes, almost spicy -- and the pistachio ice cream just popped.
Most of the ice cream is Edy’s, although the chocolate is Haagen Dazs. The donuts are made fresh daily.
It’s worth trying for the wow factor, and worth eating the whole thing because it’s that good.
