Otto - scooponcones.com
We were totally psyched to learn that Otto reopened its gelato cart in Washington Square Park after a years-long hiatus. After all, the gelato at Mario Batali’s Otto pizzeria is masterful — the perfect combination of creaminess and big, creative flavors (Olive Oil gelato, anyone?).
The cart, stationed on the northwest corner of the park, delivers the quality of gelato that Otto is known for, but not the creativity. When we visited, the flavors were all pretty traditional.
They’re also expensive: $6 for one scoop or $8 for two scoops. That’s more than at the restaurant, where $8 will get you three scoops (plus wait service).
Nonetheless, the Carmel gelato was fantastic, tasting almost more like burnt sugar. And the Coconut was incredibly light and refreshing.
Hours: Noon-6:45 p.m. daily through the end of October.
Price: $6 for one scoop
