Mario Batali’s pizza restaurant just north of Washington Square Park offers more than thin-crust pizzas at a reasonable price. It also has an exciting gelato selection.
The Olive Oil flavor is drizzled with actual olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. Even without the lovely toppings, this dish is rich and divine. It’s hard to imagine, but it does have a distinct taste of olive oil.
It’s the most notable, but not the only good option. They also have a delicious salted carmel, strawberry and corn. The Milk Chocolate Chip, however, is cloyingly sweet.
We also love the Olive Oil Copetta, which which tops the gelato with tangerine sorbetto, lime curd, fennel brittle, kumquats and blood oranges for a tangy-sweet mix that hits all the right notes.
