One Lucky Duck - scooponcones.com
Some vegan ice creams can hold their own against their dairy counterparts, but sadly the raw dessert at One Lucky Duck doesn’t quite reach that mark.
In addition to being vegan (that means no dairy or egg products), it’s also not heated above 118 degrees during preparation to “preserve nutrients and enzymes.”
We tried the Almond Buttercup, which is like peanut butter cup but with a different nut. At first it was frozen too hard and tasted like “frozen paste,” according to one Bulgarian tester. It got better as it warmed up, but still didn’t quite have the right texture. We did love the chunks of crushed almond buttercups, and found ourselves sifting through the ice cream just to eat the candy pieces.
Strangely, as the ice cream got even warmer, instead of melting it adopted the consistency of Reddi Wip.
Most offending is the price -- we accept paying more for local and organic food, but $16 for a pint of ice cream seems excessive.
One Lucky Duck, which is the take-out counter for Pure Food and Wine just around the corner, also offers shakes, including the aptly named “Millionaire’s Milkshake” for $25. It includes a whole pint of ice cream and cashew milk.
