First of all, the name ice cream sandwich is something of a misnomer for the goodies at Milk & Cookies Bakery in the West Village. It’s gelato inside, not ice cream, from Labratorio del Gelato.

But that aside, the sandwiches are divine. Some ice cream sandwiches taste like cookies with a layer of ice cream in between. But these taste like an entirely new entity, and it’s irresistible.

You can choose any flavor of gelato and any type of cookie. They also have some suggested combos -- the Sweetheart has chocolate chip cookies with strawberry gelato, and the Grasshopper has double chocolate cookies with mint ice cream. Both were super yummy.

The cafe is just off the main drag of Seventh Avenue in the West Village, and has a pleasant country kitchen atmosphere.

They also offer plain scoops, cookie sundaes, brownie sundaes, shakes and malts.
