La Newyorkina - scooponcones.com
We already loved La Newyorkina’s popsicles, especially their Avocado pops, so we were totally psyched to try their new Latin-inspired ice cream which debuted June 5 at the New Amsterdam Market.
They had three flavors: Jalapeno, Canela-Strawberry (a cinnamon strawberry blend) and Cajeta (caramel).
The Jalapeno is a sorbet that is both complex and fantastic. At first bite, it tastes like sweet pepper, then it hits you over the head with a strong spicy kick. We love it, but we had to pair it with the ice cream to cool our mouths!
The Canela-Strawberry was also outstanding, a creative twist on a summer favorite flavor. The Canela was nice but not as exciting as the other two, which were pretty mind-blowing.
At another market, the Hester St. Fair, and at a stand on the Highline, La Newyorkina offers popsicles with a Latin flair.
We love the Avocado pop: It’s green and creamy and refreshing. We were afraid that an Avocado pop would be too heavy, but it has about the consistency of a fudgesicle paired with a flavor that is mild but so good we couldn’t stop eating it (and we were really full!).
Other flavors include: Mango-Chile, Hibiscus, Mexican Chocolate and Horchata (a rice milk with cinnamon).
It takes us back to the happy days of our last Mexican vacation, without leaving the Lower East Side.
