Necessity is the mother of invention, and Je & Jo owners Jennifer and Jonathan needed cookie dough ice cream. Unsatisfied with the options available in New York City, they set about making their own.


The result is cookie dough ice cream of incredible variety and the highest quality. We absolutely loved their Cardamom ice cream with Snickerdoodle dough. For those unfamiliar with the spice, the ice cream is reminiscent of chia tea.


We took two other flavors — Lemon ice cream with Ginger Molasses dough and Fresh Mint ice cream with Lemon Lavender Shortbread dough — to an expert panel of tasters for a formal opinion. The panel overwhelmingly approved and was evenly split on which was their favorite. Both flavors were really refreshing and light for a summer day.


Je & Jo's ice cream is sold only by the cup. Each cup has a layer of cookie dough crumbles between two layers of ice cream.  We love the little wooden “spoons” that take us back to our elementary school cafeteria.


Try it at their new store in Hell’s Kitchen, or look for two trikes that pedal around the City peddling ice cream. And soon they will be at the Bleecker Playground at Bleecker St. and 11th St. (near Magnolia Bakery).
