Jahn’s - scooponcones.com
In Jackson Heights, Queens, you can find the last remaining Jahn’s (pronounced: Jan’s) ice cream shop, a beloved New York chain that sadly has dwindled.
This location is primarily a diner, but the creative sundaes on the menu are reason enough to come. We don’t even know what some of them are: The Tree is described as “This one grows in Jahn’s and not Brooklyn” and Pinapple Temptation is detailed only as “For small fry, dowagers and sissies.”
Most exciting is the Kitchen Sink, which serves eight and comes in at $49.95.
Jahn’s makes its own ice cream, and the butter pecan was delightful -- very buttery, but also light and refreshing with whole pecans nestled inside.
The decor reminds us of our grandparents, and in fact most of the people inside were at least that old.
