It may seem crazy to set up shop just down the street from the unbelievably popular Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory in Dumbo, but the ice cream at Jacques Torres quickly distinguishes itself.

The flavors are intense: the cinnamon makes us think of pouring the jar from our spice rack straight into our mouths, and the coffee reminds us of crunching the inside of the chocolate-covered espresso bean. And don’t get us started on Wicked, which is chocolate ice cream spiked with ancho and chipolte chilis. (It’s our favorite.)

Both the raspberry and mango sorbet are pretty tart, but not unpleasantly so. And the coconut sorbet is so light, it’s like a cloud.

A chandelier hanging from the ceiling dresses up the shop nicely, but we’d still rather take our cones out to the waterfront.

The Dumbo shop is an actual ice cream shop, but there is also a cart outside the Jaques Torres in the Upper West Side.
