Real Italian gelato, but we feel like we’re missing something

New York City is home to the first three U.S. locations of this Italian gelato maker (they’ve also opened one in Malibu, Calif.).
This gelato has legions of fans, but we have to admit, we don’t quite get it. The namesake flavor, Crema di Grom, is too sweet to be pleasant. The Bacio (chocolate-hazelnut) is a better bet. But given the press and the price, we expected something ... more.
Please, tell us what we’re missing in the comments section. Because we’d really like to like this place.
The Bleecker Street location does have a rare amenity: plentiful seating. Even with a line out the door, there were a few open chairs for those wanting to rest their feet.
Not in the West Village? They also have locations in the Upper West Side and Columbus Circle.
Don’t Miss: Espresso gelato, which tastes like real coffee.
Hours: Winter: Noon-11 p.m. Sunday-Thursday; Noon-midnight Friday-Saturday.
Price: $5.25 for small cup
Special Diets: The menu identifies which ice creams are appropriate for those with celiac disease.
Delivers: Yes, locally
