Real Italian gelato, but we feel like we’re missing something

New York City is home to the first three U.S. locations of this Italian gelato maker (they’ve also opened one in Malibu, Calif.).
This gelato has legions of fans, but we have to admit, we don’t quite get it. This time we tried the flavor of the month: yogurt with nuts and raisins. It was good, but not great (and the staff were dismissive when we asked what the difference was between yogurt gelato and frozen yogurt).
Given the high price ($5 for a small), the tiny serving (the cup has a high bottom so it holds even less than it appears) and the lack of wow-factor, we just can’t get excited.
Please, tell us what we’re missing in the comments section. Because we’d really like to like this place.
The Columbus Circle location has less seating room but we recommend taking your gelato outside to the sidewalk tables for people watching.
Not in the Columbus Circle? They also have locations in the West Village and the Upper West Side.
Don’t Miss: Espresso gelato, which tastes like real coffee.
Hours: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday; 11 a.m. -Midnight Thursday-Saturday.
