Goat Town - scooponcones.com
The East Village has a new ice cream cart that is ratcheting up the flavor game.
Nick Morgenstern, who dazzled us last summer with an ice cream cart at Brooklyn’s General Greene, has opened a new American bistro and is again sharing his ice cream talents.
Goat Town’s cart offers such delights as Bulleit Breakfast, Salted Carmel Pretzel, Bitter Chocolate and Coffee Amaretti.
Bulleit Breakfast deserves some explanation. It’s got all the makings of a yummy breakfast — banana ice cream, granola, nuts, cereal, raisins — plus Bulleit bourbon. This is not your mother’s breakfast ice cream. But it might be your grandfather’s.
The magic of Goat Town’s ice cream is the mix-ins. The server sprinkles the dry mix-in on top of the ice cream in the bucket before scooping out your serving. This ensures the mix-ins don’t get soggy. We really appreciated this tactic for the Salted Carmel Pretzel, which was drool-worthy.
But we must admit we were slightly chagrinned by the texture. Only the Bitter Chocolate had the truly creamy, dense mouth feel we were hoping for. The others were a little on the icy side, we’re hoping it was just an off day for the cart’s freezer.
