This bright gelato shop near Central Park is one of four storefronts in the city for Ciao Bella, which was created in Little Italy in 1983 and is now widely available in grocery stores and restaurants.

The friendly employee warned us the Dulce de Leche is sweet, and it is, but the flavor is also delightful. The Tahitian Vanilla was described as “bold” -- we might not go that far, but it held its own against the carmelly Dulce.

But the gelato is a weird gooey consistency. It stretched between the bowl and spoon like melted mozzarella cheese.

Not in the Upper East Side? They also have shops in Nolita, Grand Central, and the World Financial Center.
