Three Tarts - scooponcones.com
The ice cream sandwiches at Three Tarts, a delightful pastry shop in Chelsea, are delicate and nuanced: Ginger Ice Cream with Honey Candy and Lemon Cake; Cashew Carmel Ice Cream with Chocolate Cake; and Espresso Ice Cream with Hazelnut Cake.
They are sophisticated, but we must admit we prefer our ice cream sandwiches with cookies, not cake.
The ice cream centers, however, were lovely -- especially the Ginger/Honey, which combined with the cake for a very fresh tasting treat.
If you are looking to save a buck, they even sell “bakery bits” for about half price -- that’s the cut off ends of the sandwiches. They taste the same, but without the pretty presentation.
Three Tarts gets its name from its three pastry chef founders, who got the “Three Tarts” nickname while students at the Institute for Culinary Education.
We must admit, we love just about everything in this store -- from the decorated water bottles to the fascinating truffles. We’ll be back with the girls, but tempted by some of the other dessert selections.
Hours: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday
Price: $4.25 ice cream sandwiches; $2.50 bakery bits
